Henry “Carr” Pritchett, Jr. (1937–2025) was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and man of faith whose life touched many through his love, kindness, and quiet strength.

Early Life and Career

Henry “Carr” Pritchett, Jr. was born in Lodi, California, in 1937 to Henry Carr Pritchett, Sr. and Patience Lumpkin Pritchett. After a few years in California, the family moved to Austin, Texas, where he grew up and later attended the University of Texas, receiving his degree in economics in 1959. Following college, he married the love of his life, Lillian (“Lee”) Folk Pritchett, beginning a marriage that would last 65 years. After college, Carr joined the Army Reserve and served his country proudly from 1960-1968. He and Lee moved in 1960 from Austin to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he began his first sales position with Procter & Gamble. Carr and Lee made Albuquerque their home for the next 60 years, cherishing its welcoming community, distinctive character, and beautiful weather. A lifelong reader, he often remarked that a book could take you anywhere without leaving your seat, a belief that later guided him to work in a library, where he was happily surrounded by books every day. He passed away in Fort Worth, Texas, on November 26, 2025, after a long and difficult battle with dementia.

Faith and Church Life

Carr was a devoted Christian who cherished his time in prayer with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He attended St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and he knew his Savior was always watching over him. His faith was a steady source of strength throughout his life, and it grounded the way he loved and served others. He was always speaking words of encouragement, love, and support to his family.

Family and Legacy

Carr was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lee. He is also survived by his children, Henry Carr Pritchett, III (Pam) of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Jennifer Lynne Pritchett Dyson (Darryl) of North Richland Hills, Texas and sister-in-law Kathie Walker (Curtis) of Tucker, Georgia. His legacy continues through his six grandchildren—Stephanie West (Josh), Regen Pritchett (Haley), Jonathan Dyson (Lizz), Garrison Pritchett, Jared Dyson (Kaitlynn), and Michael Dyson—and six greatgrandchildren: Riley, Remington, Raelynn (West), Cameron (Pritchett), and Felix and Mack (Dyson). Throughout his life, Carr was affectionately known as Dad, Luv, Deedad, Moochie, Carrtoon, and Granddaddy. He took great pride in being a parent, sharing his love of sports and encouraged Carr and Jennifer in whatever their pursuits. After retirement he especially enjoyed playing golf with his buddies. He was also a published poet who wrote loving verses for family members to mark special occasions, and he delighted in simple pleasures such as reading, exercising, walking, and enjoying a good cookie!

Remembrance

A memorial service will be held at a later date in his beloved city of Albuquerque. To honor Carr’s memory, friends and family may choose to make a donation in his name to the “Cure Alzheimer’s Fund”, acknowledging both the difficulties he endured and the hope for a better future for those living with dementia.
