Haslet

Gregory Joseph McFarland, age 77, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, after a courageous five-year battle with cancer—a fight he faced with unwavering positivity and without complaint.

Greg was born on January 12, 1948, at the U.S. Naval Base in Oakland, California, to Milton Thomas McFarland and Mary Thomasiene Walker McFarland. From a young age, he developed a deep love for his country, which led him to serve honorably in both the U.S. Navy and later the U.S. Coast Guard, from which he retired. Greg also served his local community as a volunteer fireman with the Ebbetts Pass Fire District in Arnold, CA.

A man of many talents and passions, Greg pursued vocational training in commercial HVAC and refrigeration, working diligently in his trade. After relocating to Calaveras County, he became the longtime owner of Arnold Appliance in Arnold, CA. Outside of his career, he had a zest for life—he loved taking care of his classic 1964 Chevy El Camino and motorcycle, had a keen interest in history and political documentaries, and was known for his sharp wit and unique sense of humor. Greg loved the Lord and lived a life that reflected quiet strength and deep faith.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bobette McFarland, and his parents. He is survived by his sons, Ryan, John, and Matthew McFarland, and their spouses; his cherished grandchildren, Victoria, Josiah, and Katherine; and his sister, Maggie McFarland.

A graveside service will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery Thursday, June 5th at 10:00AM.

Greg’s life was marked by service, strength, and sincerity. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
