Gloria Mae Hughes left this world peacefully on Friday Dec 5, 2025, surrounded with love and family. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be Monday December15, 2025 at 10am at Lucas Funeral Home 1321 Precinct Line Rd, Hurst Texas 76053
She was born September 17, 1940, to Robert and Minnie Rogers in Jacksboro, Texas. Gloria attended Trimble Technical High School and was a graduate of Success Barber College. As a single Mom raising her three children, Mike, Gary and Donna, in Fort Worth, she demonstrated tenacity and resilience along with love and a joy in life. In order to provide a better life for her family, she enrolled in Success Barber College in 1975 and became a licensed barber. There, she met the love of her life, Douglas Hughes. They married and built the life she had always dreamed of together. They started a barber shop together and moved on to a trucking business. Gloria taught herself bookkeeping and taxes, and was active in the trucking business by preparing the financial statements and tax returns, riding shotgun with Doug in the truck, or driving the escort car when needed.
While managing their business together, Gloria started her Avon business and won the Top Sales Award, the Albee Award, many years. She also worked for the school district, as both a substitute teacher and in the cafeteria. Gloria was active in her Church in Newark, managed the church library, taught vacation bible school and volunteered to clean the church each week.
Gloria’s happiest times were with her children and grandchildren celebrating birthdays, Holidays and special moments. Her grandchildren looked forward to “Camp Onie” every summer, when they would stay with her and learn to drive the tractor or feed the goats.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."
Gloria is preceded in death by her husband, Doug Hughes, her parents, Robert and Minnie Rogers and her sister, Betty Breedlove.
Gloria is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Mike and Kelly Curtis, Gary and Pat Wiggins and her daughter and son in law, Donna Rutter and Steve Lewis, her grandchildren, Matthew and Yamilla Wiggins, Emily Curtis, Kai Curtis, Lauren Rutter and Pranoy Banerji, Natalie and Ryan Raincsuk, Nathan Rutter and her great grandsons, Hugh and Lucus Raincsuk and her nephew and his family, Robert and JJ Cantrell.
We will always remember her strength and compassion, all the laughter and the many, many fun times together.
