A Life of Love, Joy, and Devotion
Glenna Dean Cox Jones was born on November 21, 1945, in Pampa, Texas, to Dean and Alice Cox. She grew up with her sister, Neva Lynn, in a Phillips 66 camp near Pampa, where her father drove a truck and her mother worked as a seamstress. Glenna especially adored her father, who often took her fishing in a school bus he had converted just for their adventures. Her childhood was full of joy, love, and laughter.
Her family moved to Richland Hills during her junior year of high school where she graduated in 1964. Glenna met the love of her life, Harvey Jones at Texas Tech University. They had their first date in October 1966 and were married in 1968, just before graduating. They shared 57 beautiful years of marriage.
Glenna was admired not only for her beauty but also for her deep kindness, creativity, and generosity. She was a gifted teacher whose passion for education touched countless young lives. She created a successful writing program called “Be An Author”, and she was honored as Teacher of the Year. Her love for teaching was matched only by her devotion to her family.
Glenna became a mother in 1968 with the birth of her daughter Angi, shortly before Harvey was drafted into the Vietnam War. Glenna was seven months pregnant with their second daughter, Allison when Harvey was deployed. She navigated that challenging year with strength and grace, supported by family. Later, their third daughter, Amy, completed the family.
For Glenna, motherhood was her greatest calling. She poured her heart into raising her daughters and later into loving her nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her home was always open -full of warmth, laughter, and the delicious smells of homemade birthday cakes and Sunday dinners. In time, “The Feast,” as her granddaughter Lauren called it, became a beloved weekly tradition for the entire extended family.
Her “Crowded Table”, always growing, was the heart of her home.
