George Carlton Warren III

November 12, 1946 — August 2, 2025

Birmingham, AL

George Carlton Warren III, 78, of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, in Keller, Texas.

Born on November 12, 1946, in Millen, Georgia, George was the son of the late George Carlton Warren II and Jacqueline Hayslip Warren. He spent his early years in Texas, graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas before attending Texas Tech University.

George built a successful and respected career in retail, beginning at Titche’s Department Store in Dallas. His leadership and passion for excellence took him to prominent roles at Talheimer’s in North Carolina, Jacobson’s in Michigan, and Parisian in Alabama. His career culminated with a 27-year tenure at Pioneer Linens in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he was instrumental in shaping the business into one of the South’s most prestigious fine linen stores. Under his guidance, the store earned the distinction of “Specialty Store of the Year,” a reflection of his unwavering commitment to quality and service.

On December 14, 1985, George married the love of his life, Deborah Roennau, in Palm Beach, Florida. Together, they shared 39 years of unwavering devotion, building a life centered on love, family, and shared values.

George’s leisure time was often spent at the beach, jogging, playing a round of golf or watching college sporting events. He enjoyed competing in games of all sorts including poker with his neighbors, dominoes with his family and participating in scouting trips with his son.

George was a lifelong, dedicated movie buff, and he was especially fond of watching movies at the movie theater … complete with popcorn! He was equally happy to be immersed in a slow-paced western or a blockbuster action film. The movie bug is contagious and has become a Warren family favorite pastime.

Early on, George developed an interest in fashion and finer things. He was always well-dressed, sporting the latest trends in fashion, and he especially loved watches and shoes. He also appreciated the newest technologies, so it was always easy to buy him a gift.

Like all Warrens, George enjoyed a good meal in the company of good friends or family. He was steadfast, brave, and sincere, but also fun loving, with a sly smile, quick wit, and infectious laugh. He was family focused and never missed an opportunity to get together. Most of all, he was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and everyone who knew him.

George was also a dedicated supporter of kidney health awareness, regularly participating in National Kidney Foundation walk-a-thons—a cause close to his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah Roennau Warren of Birmingham, AL; his daughters Shannon Bates (Robert) of Plano, TX, and Kimberly Montgomery (Casey) of Frisco, TX; his son Cameron Warren of Oak Point, TX; and his sister Nancy Peterson (Jan) of Denton, TX.

A memorial service to celebrate George’s life will be held at a later date in Georgia. There will be no public visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the American Kidney Fund.

George leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and generosity. His life was a testament to the joy of meaningful work, cherished relationships, and unwavering devotion to those he loved most.
