Gary David Heidkamp

April 10, 1951 — June 29, 2025

Roanoke

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary David Heidkamp, who left us peacefully on June 29, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on April 10, 1951, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Theodore and Cecilia Heidkamp.

Gary was a proud graduate of Carrick High School, class of 1969, and later honed his skills at the Electronics Institute of Pittsburgh, graduating as an electronic technician in 1971. His thirst for knowledge led him to Chapman College in Orange, California, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems in 1991. In his early years he lived in Pittsburgh, Florida and on Ascension Island in Madagascar.

Gary spent his life channeling his passion for engineering into a successful career in the aerospace industry. He truly thrived in his work, and his love for all things electronic was exceeded only by his love for family and friends. He had a knack for fixing things, and you could often find him tinkering away in his workshop or sharing stories of his travels.

Those who knew Gary appreciated his warmth, humor, and the joy he found in life's simple pleasures. He was a dedicated husband to his soulmate, Donna Heidkamp, whom he married on October 20, 1978. Together, they created a home filled with love and laughter that spanned states, having lived in California and Texas. In addition to his work, Gary had a wide array of hobbies that reflected his curious spirit. He loved music, tended to his plants, enjoyed coin shows, and enjoyed biking in the great outdoors. His zest for life was contagious, and he leaves behind cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna; daughter, Tabitha Haney and her husband, Mark; grandson, Calvin Haney; granddaughter, Claire Haney; brothers, Ronald Heidkamp, Thomas Heidkamp and his wife, Bonnie, and Mark Heidkamp and his wife, Cindy. Other brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Cynthia Staudenmeir, Jo Den, Greg and Penny Haseltine, Debbie and John McGrath, Jayne Kelley, Cindi Jacobs, Diana Freeman, and many nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Cecilia Heidkamp, and parents-in-law, James and Pauline Haseltine, and Loren and Jenna Staudenmeir.
