Major Fowler loved nothing more than being a pilot and he was exceptional at his job. He was fond of saying that “You will never meet a pilot that doesn’t like their job” and this sentiment was true throughout his career; Freddie never had a bad day flying. Of note, Freddie was the very first Blackhawk helicopter test pilot and commanded the first Blackhawk squadron. He was particularly fond of piloting the Gulfstream G650ER.

Freddie was born in La Mesa, Texas and enlisted into the Army after graduating from Colorado University with a Bachelor of Science degree. Freddie was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, followed by Fort Rucker, Alabama and Presidio in San Francisco, California. Freddie was extremely proud to serve his country in Vietnam for several years. Major Fowler loved being a pilot and would have done anything to fly just one more time. On March 19, 2026, the runway was cleared for take-off. The family finds comfort that wherever his final destination may be, his flight had clear skies, a soft landing and a safe arrival. We will meet you at the gate, Major Fowler!
