Freda Janelle Mead

Freda Janelle Mead, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully departed from this world on November 23, 2025, at the age of 88, in Grapevine, Texas. Born on July 20, 1937, in Leesville, Louisiana, Freda was a shining light in the lives of those who had the privilege to know her.

Freda dedicated over 25 years of her life to serving the Fort Sam Houston Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas. Her commitment dedication to her work and nurturing spirit left an indelible mark on her students and colleagues alike, where her kindness made all feel at ease. In her professional life, she exemplified the very virtues she cherished, fostering a welcoming atmosphere filled with compassion.

Outside her career, Freda's spirit flourished through her many hobbies and interests. A passionate reader, she found joy in the pages of countless books, immersing herself in stories that transported her to new worlds. Her love for music resonated deeply within her soul; she enjoyed listening to religious hymns, particularly those cherished "old time" tunes that uplifted her heart in song, something that reflected her devout spirit and commitment to her church and to her Lord, Jesus Christ.

An avid shopper, Freda had a unique knack for finding the perfect treasures, and her enthusiasm for life was matched only by her zeal for sports. She was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and the San Antonio Spurs, often sharing her excitement and passion for the games with family and friends.

Freda's legacy lives on through her loving family. She is survived by her daughter, Lynda Turner; her son, Michael Mead (spouse – Audra); and her treasured grandchildren: Michael Ray Turner (spouse – Cassandra), Jourdan Mead, and Tyler Turner (spouse – Stephanie). Each of them carries a piece of her heart, her laughter, and her warmth, ensuring that her memory will continue to thrive in the bonds they share.

Freda is preceded in death by her father, John Wesley Nessmith, and her mother, Nona (Smith) Nessmith, who instilled in her the values of kindness and grace that she so readily shared with the world.
