Eugene Edwin Quist

Funeral services for Eugene Edwin Quist, 78, of North Richland Hills, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Southlake Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening at Lucas Funeral Home in Keller.

Eugene passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, in Grapevine, Texas. He was born on April 11, 1948, in Ladysmith, Canada, to Ernie and Margie Quist.

Eugene devoted more than 20 years of his professional life as a Professor of Pharmacology at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, where he was admired by colleagues and students alike for his dedication to education, his passion for research, and his thoughtful mentorship. He believed deeply in the pursuit of knowledge and took great pride in helping shape the next generation of healthcare professionals.

A man of many talents and interests, Eugene embraced life with curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm. A gifted musician, he found great joy in playing the piano, guitar, and harmonica, and he especially enjoyed composing his own music. His love of music extended to every genre, and there was rarely a style he didn't appreciate.

His curiosity about the world inspired a lifelong love of travel, learning about different cultures, and experiencing new cuisines. Whether exploring a new destination or preparing a meal at home, Eugene delighted in discovering and sharing new flavors. He also found happiness on the water while boating, enjoyed the peacefulness of fishing, and loved the adventure of scuba diving. An avid hockey fan, he faithfully followed the sport he loved.

Eugene's faith was an important part of his life. He was actively involved in his church, enjoyed attending Bible studies, and found strength, fellowship, and purpose in growing alongside others in his faith.

He also appreciated quieter moments, often challenging himself with puzzles and Sudoku, always keeping his sharp mind engaged.

Above all else, Eugene was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. His family was the center of his world, and he worked tirelessly to provide for them while filling their lives with love, encouragement, and unwavering support. He treasured every opportunity to gather with his children and grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Scott; his sons, Julian Paul Quist and wife Melissa,  Erik Nathaniel Quist, Chris Rodriguez and wife Joyce; his daughters, Stephanie Malone and husband Darrin, and Marissa Kelsey and spouse Brit; his daughter-in-law, Suaad Alwan Quist; and his cherished grandchildren, Carlton, Olivia, Jillian, Deanna, Finley, Reed, Fallon, Xaneeya and Gretta.

Eugene was preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael Andrew Quist.

Eugene will be remembered for his brilliant mind, adventurous spirit, unwavering faith, gentle heart, and deep love for his family. His kindness, wisdom, generosity, and quiet strength touched countless lives, and the example he set through his life, his work, and his faith will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him. Though he will be greatly missed, his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, colleagues, and students for years to come.
