Together in life for over six decades and now reunited in peace, Procopio and Esperanza Velez leave behind a legacy rooted in love, family, and faith.
A memorial service and visitation to celebrate their lives will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Lucas Funeral Home in Keller, Texas.
Procopio Velez
Born in Rock Springs, Texas, on July 8, 1939, to Chappo Velez and Maria Hernandez, Procopio was known for his quiet strength, work ethic, and deep love for the outdoors. He built a respected career as a chemical engineer at Procter & Gamble, where he worked until his retirement. Outside of work, he found joy in fishing and hunting, often sharing those passions with his children and grandchildren.
Procopio was preceded in death by his parents and siblings John, Petra, Josefina, and Julia Velez. He passed away on May 11, 2024, at the age of 84.
Esperanza Velez
Born in Hidalgo, Texas, on June 14, 1943, to Alfredo Villarreal and Dominga Salinas, Esperanza was the heart of her home. A devoted homemaker, she poured love, care, and grace into every aspect of family life. Her beautiful embroidery work and warm hospitality were a reflection of the pride she took in creating a loving, welcoming space for all who entered. Procopio worked hard to ensure she had everything she needed to keep their home running smoothly — a testament to their shared commitment and enduring partnership.
Esperanza was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Polo, Raul, and Israel Villarreal, and sisters Consuela, Lidia, and Amalia Villarreal. She passed away on August 31, 2025, at the age of 82.
A Life Together
Procopio and Esperanza shared a strong and faithful marriage marked by mutual respect, dedication, and love. Together, they raised a large and close-knit family, instilling in their children the values of hard work, integrity, and devotion to family.
They are lovingly remembered by their children: Gilbert Velez, Carlos Velez, Edward Velez, James Velez (Maria), and Mary Hernandez (Alejandro); and by their many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately knew them as the foundation of their family:
Grandchildren: Jesse Velez, Gilbert Velez Jr., Samuel Velez, Joseph Velez, Clarrisa Gonzalez (Gilbert), Bianca Martinez (Mannie), Joshua Velez (Sonia Pena), Cecilia Velez (Alex Lopez), Marcus Cisneros (Jill), James Velez Jr., and Andrea Hernandez.
Great-grandchildren: Dominic Velez, Alyanna Martinez, Procopio “Coco” Lopez, and Aldus Lopez.
Procopio and Esperanza are also survived by Procopio's sister, Rosa Velez - and Esperanza's brother, Steve Villarreal.
Though their passing leaves a void, the lives they touched and the love they gave continue to ripple through generations. Their story is one of unity, resilience, and unconditional love — a legacy that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew them.
