Edna May Merritt, 99 years young, of North Richland Hills Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 29, 2026. She was a cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend. Her presence is and will be deeply missed.
Edna was born in 1927 in New Jersey. She attended school there from elementary school through high school years where she enjoyed being on the cheerleader team and a tap dancer, performing with her high school group at Radio City Music Hall.
Edna and husband Lloyd were high school sweethearts. They married young and then spent 48 wonderful years together. As Edna and Lloyd raised their family, Edna also worked outside the home. She moved up in the insurance field, becoming a successful insurance agent, which at the time was a level of qualification newly opened to women.
Edna loved Jesus Christ with all her heart, soul, and mind and served her Lord in many capacities. Edna was an adult Sunday School class leader, a vacation Bible school leader, taught junior church for many years, and had a Bible study in her home for 15 years. Edna also led many people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Edna had many artistic abilities, and from childhood to age 99 she explored, enjoyed and shared them all. As a painter she used a wide variety of mediums, including scratchboard art and experimenting with woodburning. She was also a poet, writing over 500 original poems. Inspired by her faith in Jesus Christ, she combined her poetry and art to publish 20 booklets that became a key part of her personal Christian outreach. She was forever giving them away for encouragement, comfort and cheer, providing an open door to a listening ear.
At the age of 65 Edna enhanced her community outreach in two ways, she served as President of the Baxter County Homemakers Extension Club, and at age 70 she opened a non-profit miniature museum in Mountain Home, Arkansas called Tiny Town Tours Museum of Merritt. People visited from throughout the USA and different countries, and children from school classes and scout troops enjoyed her tours and stories. Creatively using thousands of miniature “findings” and her own creations, Edna brought to life many local shops and businesses, and themed dioramas. Her many furnished dollhouses completed the collection. Edna was honored when Doll House Miniature Magazine became interested and in 1997 showcased her miniatures creativity by placing her on the cover and in a featured article highlighting her “Bead and Button Bakery Shoppe”. Later in 2004, Edna was tickled to be included in the Second Edition of Bradt’s Travel Guide, “Eccentric America”.
Lloyd, Edna’s husband and love of her life, went to be with Jesus in 1992. She is survived by her daughters Karen, Eileen Deborah, and Heather; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Edna brought much joy to our hearts and the hearts of others. At every opportunity and in great measure, she poured out to all she met the love and joy she experienced in the tender hands of Jesus her Lord and Savior. What a heritage of love and faith she has given to so many because she knew, lived, and proclaimed the absolute truth in her life verse, “My God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we can ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20).
