With profound sorrow and deep respect, we announce the passing of Dr. Carlton Pittard, a venerable physician, community pioneer, and devoted family man, who departed this life on May 10, 2026, in Grapevine, Texas. Born on December 3, 1931, in Longview, Texas, Dr. Pittard’s life was a testament to unwavering dedication, compassionate service, and spirited engagement in all his endeavors.
Dr. Pittard’s journey began with a firm foundation in education, having graduated from Austin High School before pursuing his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. His calling to medicine led him to UT Galveston for medical school and subsequently to a formative internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. He devoted three years to the U.S. Public Health Service in Memphis, Tennessee, embodying commitment to public welfare early in his career.
In 1960, Dr. Pittard moved to Grapevine, beginning a remarkable 53-year tenure at the local medical clinic alongside, Dr. Ed Lancaster and Dr. Minnie Lee Lancaster. His medical acumen and visionary spirit were instrumental in founding the Grapevine Memorial Hospital and establishing the DFW Airport clinic. Beyond clinical practice, he played a pivotal role in developing disaster drills at DFW Airport and championed the growth of the GRACE Medical Clinic in Grapevine. His expertise extended beneath the surface as well, where, as an avid scuba diver, he contributed to the advancement of emergency medical protocols for dive-related injuries.
Dr. Pittard's influence was not confined to medicine alone. He was a cornerstone in the economic development of Grapevine, owning Mark III Realty and instrumental in founding The American National Bank, the city’s second bank. His civic service included many years on the Grapevine City Council, where he helped shape the community he cherished. His passion for the land was realized through his Ranch Management Certification — encouraged by his close friend Bill Tate — and his frequent stewardship of various ranches. This connection to his roots was further enriched by his lineage; he was the grandchild of Charlie Grant, a pioneer of country western music in Texas.
Known for his kind and welcoming demeanor, Dr. Pittard possessed a great sense of humor that endeared him to patients, colleagues, and friends alike. He was ever active—an avid hunter, fisherman, and water skier—embracing life with vigor. His spiritual devotion manifested through active participation in First Baptist Church of Euless and numerous mission trips across the globe, touching lives in Africa, India, Jamaica, El Salvador, Ukraine, and Russia.
His life was deeply anchored by family. Dr. Pittard cherished his beloved spouse, Lanis Pittard, who stood by his side through years of love and partnership. He was a proud father to sons Grant Pittard (spouse – Jill), John Pittard, and Andrew Pittard (spouse – Lindsay), as well as daughters Jan Pittard (spouse – Mike Kozacek) and Amy Loevy. His legacy endures through his fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, whose achievements brought him immense joy and pride. He is also remembered fondly in familial ties with Wanda Pittard, his former spouse. He was predeceased by his parents, Olivia Grant and John Carlton Pittard, whose memories he carried forth with honor.
The community and family will gather together to celebrate the life of Dr. Pittard's life during a visitation at the Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine, Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 10:00 am. at the Cross City Church, 1000 Airport Freeway, Euless, Texas. Burial will follow in the Grapevine Historic Cemetery, Grapevine, Texas.
Dr. Carlton Pittard’s life was a masterpiece of service, compassion, and dedication that elevated those around him and enriched the community he so ardently loved. His enduring legacy of kindness, leadership, and familial devotion will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know him.
