For 33 wonderful years, Douglas shared a beautiful life with his wife, Rhonda. Together they built a home filled with joy, devotion, and countless cherished memories. Their journey was one of deep partnership and enduring love, a bond that will remain forever in Rhonda’s heart.

Born in Illinois, Douglas carried the steady, grounded spirit of his Midwestern roots throughout his life. Though he later made Texas his home, his Illinois family remained a treasured part of who he was, shaping the values, humor, and quiet strength that defined him.

Douglas leaves behind his beloved wife, Rhonda; his children, Corey (Taylor) Ator, Brittany Ator, and Dylan Ator; his cherished grandchildren, Gabriel Ator, Fiona Anderson, and Zoey Ator; his sister, Kathy Gates; his niece, Jackie (Bryan) Nicoll; and his great‑nephews, Hunter and Braden Nicoll — along with his extended family in Illinois and all who loved him. His grandchildren each held a special place in his heart, and while he adored them all deeply, Douglas shared a unique and tender bond with Zoey, whom he helped raise. Their connection was filled with love, trust, and the everyday moments that become lifelong memories.

He loved his family fiercely and found joy in the simple, meaningful moments spent together — sharing laughter, offering support, and creating memories that will forever live in the hearts of those he loved. A devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, Douglas enjoyed cheering on his team, and he found great fun in playing poker, savoring both the game and the company it brought.

To know Douglas was to be touched by a man who left a lasting impression — someone whose love, humor, and gentle spirit made life brighter for everyone around him. His legacy lives on through his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and all who carry his memory forward.

Though his time with us was far too short, the love Douglas gave will never end. His family will hold him close in every story shared, every tradition continued, and every moment shaped by the love he poured into their lives.
