Douglas Alan Young, known to family and friends as Doug, passed away on August 19, 2026, following a car accident. He was 71 years old.
Doug was born February 18, 1955, in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Baylor University, where he met Terri. They married on May 21, 1977, and spent nearly 50 years building a life centered on faith, family, and a shared calling to ministry. Doug later graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary before beginning a lifetime of ministry.
Doug and Terri served together on church staffs across Texas while raising their four children, John, Ryan, Pauli, and Kalee. Doug began his ministry in youth ministry at First Baptist Church Clifton and later served as youth and education minister at First Baptist Church Kingsland. He then served as minister of education and administration for a decade at First Baptist Church Port Neches, followed by First Baptist Church Tomball and 18 years at First Baptist Church Temple before retiring.
Doug was known for his big heart and genuine love for people. He had a gift for showing up for people and ministering to them through some of life's most difficult seasons. He sought to be a reflection of Christ's love. He found joy in leading people to Christ and encouraging people as they grew in their faith. Those who knew him will remember his big smile, open arms for a hug, firm pat on the back, and genuine kindness.
Doug loved being a husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed playing with his kids and grandchildren, teaching them games and sports, fishing, and simply being part of their lives. After retiring, he and Terri moved to Fort Worth to be closer to family.
Doug is survived by his wife, Terri Young; his children, John Young and his wife, Katie, Ryan Young and his wife, Ashleigh, Pauli Young, and Kalee Young; and his grandchildren, Bingham and Potter, and Rose and Asa. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Mary Young; his sister, Sherry; and his brother, Joel.
