Together, they created a nurturing environment filled with love and support, leaving a lasting legacy through their family.
A passionate advocate for children, Dayna dedicated a significant part of her life to being a house parent at the Baptist Children's Home in North Carolina. She opened her heart and home to countless children, providing them with a safe haven during challenging times. Her compassion and kindness knew no bounds, and her impact on the lives of those she cared for will be felt for years to come.
Dayna was particularly fond of Christmas, cherishing the tradition of Cookie Day, where she gathered her family and friends to make and decorate cookies. These moments were filled with laughter, joy, and love, reflecting the warmth of her spirit and the connections she fostered.
Dayna leaves behind her cherished husband, Gene Bird, and her loving children, Gena McKeithan and her husband Jerad, and Stephen Bird and his wife Ashley Bird. She was a proud grandmother to Grace and Andrew Holcomb, Xander, Liam, Elliot, Kesed, and Maggie Bird, and Emma Moya-Mckeithan. In addition to her biological family, Dayna also embraced numerous adoptive children and grandchildren, showcasing her boundless love and generosity.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Dixie Barkley, and her brother, Mickey Barkley. Dayna's legacy of love and care will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
