David Leland Neely
January 14, 1945 – April 18, 2026
David Leland Neely of Colleyville, TX was born January 14th, 1945 in Athens, Texas to Zeke and Lila Neely. He graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas and earned his business degree at Texas Wesleyan University. He then went on to earn his Masters in Business Administration from Texas Christian University.
His family was the focus of his life, and his grandchildren were his greatest joy. When his kids were young, he never missed any event they were taking part in, from drill team performances to soccer, baseball, and basketball games. He was always in the stands and never missed an opportunity to tell a referee what he thought of their performance. That passion was renewed when his grandchildren started playing sports and dancing. He was there for the fun times and the challenging times, and was always a rock for his kids. His words and presence instilled a sense of security and confidence in his family, no matter what the situation. His faithfulness, character, and strength were present daily in his family, influencing generational success in every aspect of life.
David loved to play golf and travel, and treasured the relationships built around the sport. He spent hours with great friends and family on the course, the driving range, and on vacation, perfecting his swing and building bonds with the people he loved. He loved fishing and hunting with family and spent many years on a deer lease with his son, friends, and employees.
He had a deep passion for music and worship. An accomplished pianist as a young man, music always resonated with him. His choice in churches was always strongly influenced by the depth of the praise and worship portion of the service… he lived for the first hour of church.
He began his business career in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and shortly after landed at Affiliated Computer Services, where he became the head of HR. After several promotions and a fast rise within the company, David became Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, a role he held for many years. While in that role, with seed money invested by ACS, he founded Precept Inc., a business forms and printing distributor. As CEO of Precept, he led the company to become the largest of its kind in the country, with offices from coast to coast, and later took the company public. After retiring from Precept in 1999, he spent the next 20 years of his career working alongside his son Jeff to build Xact Business Solutions in Grapevine, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zeke and Lila Neely, and his son-in-law, David Deason.
He is survived by the love of his life and his wife of 59½ years, Judy Neely; his daughter Jill Deason and her children Madison, Hannah, Emily, Caleb, and Aidan; and his son Jeff (spouse Colleen) and their children Elizabeth Holmes (spouse Mason), Joshua, and Brooke.
David spent the last weeks of his amazing, adventurous life at home, enjoying love and laughter with family and friends, exactly how he spent his life. He passed away on April 18th, 2026 at his home, with his family by his side until the moment he closed his eyes for the last time and reopened them in the arms of Jesus, his Lord and Savior.
