Dale
Hurd
Dec 21, 1929 — Jul 18, 2026
Burleson
Arlis Dale Hurd of Burleson, Texas passed away on July 18, 2026 at home at the age of 96 years.
Dale was born in Menard, Texas on December 21st, 1929, a night of a 21-inch snowstorm. He later lived in Maude and Killeen, Texas. Coming to Killeen in 1942, he attended Killeen High School until he joined the Navy in 1948. He married Sue Blair in 1949, and they had their first child, Ronnie, in 1950. At this time, Dale was stationed in Hawaii aboard the submarine, USS Queenfish. Their second son, David, was born in 1951. During this time, Dale was aboard the subtender, USS Sperry. He was discharged from the Navy in September of 1951 and returned to Killeen. There he worked as an electrician and became Killeen’s city building inspector. In 1953 he moved to Ft. Worth, again working as an electrician. He worked for State Electric, while building General Motors Assembly plant in Arlington, TX. He was later hired by GM March 3, 1954, where he worked for 34 years, going from an electrician to Maintenance Superintendent. During these years, in 1966, he was blessed with a daughter, Holly Deanne. He retired in August 1988, only to return under special contract several times. One of those times, 1994, he spent one year working at General Motors de Mexico, Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico as Project Superintendent of the construction of the body shop. After the year or so that he worked at HM in 1999, he finally took time to “really” retire and enjoy the family, traveling, and just doing whatever came along. He had a few health problems, heart (cardio myopathy) and later diabetes. He took these in stride and has gone on with his life with the thought “So many people are a lot worse”. Alongside his professional achievements, he had a passionate interest in woodworking, RVing, and square dancing, pursuits that brought him joy and fulfillment.
Dale is survived by his wife; Bobbye Sue Hurd, his children; Ronnie Hurd and Patsy, David Hurd and Brenda, and Holly Cole, his grandchildren; Jamey Hurd and Carolyn, Shanon Cox and Jeff, Brooke Boutsikakis and Johnny, Lea Adams and Taylor, Magan Broach and Patric, Katye Broach, and his great-grandchildren; Alex Hurd, Emma Hurd, Hunter Cox, Stoney Cox, Daegan Boutsikakis, Demi Boutsikakis, Daphni Boutsikakis, Chelsea Williams, Gabriel Bebe, Grayson Adams as well as his sister, Jane Lawson and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burleigh R and Dovie J Hurd, his grandson Trey Williams, his 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
