A memorial service to celebrate the life of Cortlandt William Steinwedel, 76, of Keller, Texas, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Hurst. Cortlandt passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, in Fort Worth.
Born on November 25, 1948, in Toledo, Ohio, Cortlandt was the beloved son of Cortlandt and Betty Steinwedel. He answered the call to serve his country with honor and distinction as a United States Marine, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His service was marked by steadfast dedication, leadership, and integrity—qualities that defined him throughout his life.
Following his military career, Cortlandt continued to serve in another capacity through his work at Bell Helicopter, where he contributed his expertise and leadership until his retirement.
Cortlandt was a man of quiet strength and of selfless character. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—playing golf, reading, and cooking for his family, but nothing brought him more fulfillment than being with his grandchildren, whom he loved deeply and unconditionally.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion through his wife, Jan Steinwedel; his son, Adam Steinwedel and wife Christine; his daughters, Rhonda Carpenter and husband Jeff, and Amanda Steinwedel; his sister, Pat Quay and husband Ken; and his beloved grandchildren, Viktor and Henry Steinwedel, Juliana Carpenter, and Jacob Ramirez.
Cortlandt was preceded in death by his parents, Cortlandt and Betty Steinwedel, and his brother, Jack Steinwedel.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, a faithful servant to his country, and a man of deep character and humility. His presence was a gift to all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished forever.
