Clarice Elaine Brown, lovingly known as “Elaine” by family and friends, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, at the age of 89. She was born on June 7, 1936, in Snyder, Texas, to Hugh Weldon Brown and Dorothy Swan Brown.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Vondal Brown Reed; her brother, Hugh Weldon Brown Jr.; her brother-in-law, Mickey Reed; and her nieces, Ronda Jo Reed and Monica Lynn Brown.
She is survived by her brother, Gene Swan Brown and his wife Anita, along with six nieces and several cousins who will cherish her memory and the love she shared throughout her life.
Elaine graduated from Northwest High School and later attended North Texas University. She built a long and respected career with Mobil Oil Corporation, where she worked in the transportation department in Dallas from 1961 to 1985. In 1985, she transferred to Virginia and continued her work there until her retirement in 1995. During her years with Mobil, Elaine traveled to Jakarta, Indonesia on three separate occasions to assist with office moves and attend board meetings, experiences she greatly valued.
Elaine loved her life in Virginia and was known for her warm hospitality and generous spirit. She often welcomed friends and loved ones into her townhome, hosting birthday celebrations and weekly gatherings filled with fellowship, hymns, and conversation. She especially enjoyed showing visitors around Mount Vernon and Williamsburg and had favorite local restaurants where staff knew her by name. She also treasured the close friendships she maintained over many years through regular weekend dinners and gatherings.
Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Elaine was an active member of the Church of Christ in Roanoke, Prestoncrest Church of Christ in Dallas, and later the Falls Church of Christ in Virginia. She devoted much of her time to serving others through senior ministry work, helping church members in need by providing transportation to appointments, babysitting when needed, and offering friendship and encouragement to those around her.
In 2020, Elaine moved back to Texas during the coronavirus pandemic to be closer to family. Her kindness, faith, hospitality, and devotion to others left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
Elaine will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
