Chet Alan Gray

d. August 6, 2025

Chet Gray, 64, of Colleyville, Texas, passed away unexpectedly at home on August 6, 2025.

Born on January 19, 1961, in Ft. Benning, Georgia, to Betty Barkley and Robert Gray, Chet lived a life filled with music, laughter, friendship, and love.

Chet is survived by his devoted life partner of 14 years, Bonnie Burson. Her children, who he loved as his own, are Tanner Burson (Colleyville), Jenna Bryan (her husband Carson), and their daughter Olivia (Allen). His stepfather, Johnney Barkley of Mansfield, and his sisters Linda Sue Gray of Hurst, Karen (her husband Chuck Cole) of Midland and brother-in-law Kyle Van Cleve. Also surviving are nieces and nephews: Jacqueline Cromwell (her husband Jim) and their children Aubree and Gage; Clay Cole (his wife Susie) Reece Van Cleve and Sam Van Cleve, along with a wide circle of family and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty Barkley and Robert Gray, and his sister Cindy Van Cleve.

Chet was a proud graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington. He spent 12 years at Hewlett-Packard, where he built lifelong friendships with colleagues, and in recent years, he brought joy and excitement as a craps dealer for local casino parties—always ready with conversation, laughter, and a lesson for anyone eager to learn the game.

He loved horses and had previously owned a horse farm in Ocala, Florida, where he raced his beloved Windy’s Escapade. At home, Chet found joy in the kitchen and cooking on the grill, experimenting with new recipes, and pairing wines with dinner. He was a gifted athlete and he loved sports. He was a baseball fan and a true-blue supporter of the Texas Rangers.

Music was woven into Chet’s life—especially the sounds of Earth, Wind & Fire, Jimmy Buffett, Marvin Gaye to name a few—and he loved a good round of music trivia. He was an amazing friend, and mentor, always ready to lend a hand and always up for a good time. Chet was one of the most selfless people you could ever meet, a “Clydesdale,” and truly one in a million.

He leaves behind an incredible legacy among his family, friends, fraternity brothers, and colleagues. He will be dearly missed. The family thanks everyone for their prayers and support during this difficult time.
