Dewayne Stewart, known and respected for being a man of unwavering faith, uncompromising integrity, unmatched wisdom, unlimited patience, and an uplifting sense of humor, was ushered suddenly but peacefully to his eternal home on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
Dewayne was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on September 12, 1943, to the late Bernice Holder Price, a mother who was incredibly strong, hardworking, and dedicated. He graduated from Carter-Riverside High School in 1961, where he excelled academically and was an avid, skilled player of baseball and basketball. Afterward, Dewayne was awarded a full baseball scholarship to Texas A&M University, playing in the 1964 College World Series, and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1965 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. During his college years, Dewayne married Judy Copeland in 1962. Their 57-year marriage was a testament to their enduring love, devotion, and lifelong commitment to each other, as well as to their three daughters, five grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dewayne was employed by the Kroger Company for over 32 years, during which he significantly influenced and made a positive difference in the lives of numerous individuals.
Dewayne has been a long-standing member of Shady Grove Baptist Church and has faithfully served His Lord and the church throughout his entire life. He has served as a deacon, church treasurer, and VBS volunteer, among other roles. Additionally, Dewayne has consistently and unselfishly shared his time, resources, and gifts to advance God's kingdom. He truly was a spiritual leader, mentor, disciple, and example to all. Dewayne possessed a kind heart and remarkable resilience. He was always quick to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors. As a devoted father, he instinctively knew how to comfort his daughters in difficult times, reminding them that God's goodness endures and that trusting Him is essential. His greatest accomplishment was his devotion to the Lord, his Savior. He loved his family unconditionally and deeply, leaving a beautiful and lasting legacy of love and hope for his family and friends.
Dewayne's absence will be felt profoundly, but his spirit, wisdom, and our memories of him will forever inspire, guide, and comfort. He eternally impacted and equipped the lives of all his family through his example of love and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, guaranteeing we will all be together again, forever... soon.
