Hurst – Charlie “Red” Lee Atkins, 98 years and 11 months, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Charlie, from Honey Grove, Texas was born on February 28, 1927, to Kara and Cordie Atkins.
He moved to Plainview, where he proudly served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. Between the wars, he married the love of his life, Georgia Selby. A hardworking man, he held various jobs throughout his life before retiring as a maintenance supervisor with Centennial Liquors. In retirement, he was an active member of Shady Oaks Baptist Church, where he faithfully served with the Texas Baptist Men Disaster Relief. He also enjoyed traveling, embracing new places and experiences with Georgia. His life was defined by service, dedication, and love for his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, Georgia Atkins, his son, Chris Atkins, and his 3 brothers.
Survivors: Son, Craig and wife Sue Atkins of Colleyville; his 9 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be given in memory of Charlie to Texans on Mission (formerly Texas Baptist Men Disaster Relief).
