Ceretha Ray Kennemer, a beloved member of her family and community, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, in Azle, Texas, at the age of 82. Born on December 3, 1942, in Quinlan, Texas, Ceretha grew up in Corpus Christi, where she formed cherished memories that would last a lifetime.Her early years were marked by a spirited personality; her uncle Martin affectionately nicknamed her "Shorty" before she could even walk. She vividly remembered the excitement of seeing Elvis Presley perform and made a stand against the high school dress code that prohibited girls from wearing jeans, showcasing her tenacity and determination.
Ceretha was a proud graduate of Roy Miller High School, where she also participated in the marching band. In 1962, she married her high school sweetheart, Arthur Stanley Kennemer, on June 1, embarking on a journey of love and partnership that would last a lifetime. As a devoted homemaker, Ceretha poured her heart into caring for her family until 1987, when she began a fulfilling career working at various craft stores, including Michaels, MJDesigns, Hobby Lobby, and Joann’s, until the disruptions caused by COVID-19.
Beyond her professional life, Ceretha was known as a hard worker who deeply treasured her family. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, and her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Ceretha's hobbies included fishing, sewing, china painting, and reading, which allowed her to express her creativity and share joyous moments with her loved ones.
A woman of faith, Ceretha was a devote Christian and found strength and inspiration in her love for God. This belief system guided her through both the smiles and struggles of life.
Ceretha is survived by her beloved daughter, Amy Trammell and her husband Mike Trammell; her grandson, Kendall Kennemer; and her granddaughters, Annalicia Trammell and Rebecca Trammell. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews whom she regarded as her own children and in-laws she considered to be her brothers and sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Letha Carter; her sister, Drucilla DeLay; her husband, Arthur Kennemer; her son, Lance Kennemer; and her daughter, Lori Kennemer.
Ceretha's legacy will live on through her family and the countless memories she shared. Her Funeral Service will be held on May 2, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine, Texas, followed by her burial at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville at 11:30 AM. Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating the remarkable life of Ceretha Kennemer, whose spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved.
