Mary Carolyn Bedgood Park was a devoted mother and grandmother whose life served as a masterclass in balancing family, career, and passion. To her five children and eight grandchildren, she was more than just a matriarch; she was an inspiration and a "dynamo" who redefined what was possible for the women of her generation.
Carolyn was born July 16, 1932 in Bloomburg, TX. She grew up in Atlanta, TX where she lived until graduating from Atlanta High School in 1950. She died January 6, 2026.
Carolyn was a graduate of East Texas State University (now Texas A&M at Commerce). She did her masters work at Texas Women’s University. In 1957, she was hired by Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD as one of the first 13 teachers under the newly consolidated school system. She was later a speech pathologist for Fort Worth ISD.
Throughout her life, Carolyn was committed to her work in numerous civic and community organizations. She became a member of the City of Euless’ Park Board and later served on the Planning and Zoning Board. She was elected to the Euless City Council. Carolyn was the chairperson for the City of Euless Beautification Committee and active in the “Don’t Mess with Texas” program. Under her leadership, City of Euless won two Governor’s awards and became a Tree City USA.
In 1987, she campaigned for and was elected to a seat in the Texas House of Representatives as State Representative for District 92. She served the State of Texas in that capacity until retiring in 1997. Her role in politics included Tarrant County co-chair for George Bush’s campaign for governor, and an active role in his second bid for governor and U. S. President. She was a member of Laura Bush’s Literacy Foundation and the Board of Regents for Midwestern State University.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John H. Park, Jr. DDS. Carolyn is survived by her sons Robert Buckman, John Park, III, David Park, daughters Lydia Park Berry and Tricia Park, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
