Carole Drake Belcher was born in Binghamton, New York the daughter of Geraldine Skinner and Carroll Drake of Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Mansfield State College with a Bachelors of Library Science Degree in 1965. Upon graduating from college, she married, and is survived by, her husband of 60 years, William Belcher, and their two children Katryna Dora Gonzalez and Jon Christian Belcher. Carole also has one grandson Maxx Gonzalez, son of Katryna and her husband Gus. Carole and husband Bill moved to Haslet, Texas in 2013 from California where she lived at the time of her passing. Katryna and her husband Gus recently relocated to Haslet from California, as well. Jon and his wife Jamie live in Toney, Alabama.
Carole, an avid genealogist, was an active member of many service organizations. She joined the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Waukesha, Wisconsin on April 1, 1983, and after serving in a number of chapter, committee, and state positions, she was elected to serve as the California State Regent from 1998 to 2000, and then was elected to be a Vice President General for the National Society DAR from 2001 to 2003. Carole continued to serve the National Society as the appointed National Parliamentarian for two terms between 2007 and 2013, and then was elected Honorary Vice President General for Life from California in 2013, a position she was extremely proud to hold.
Her heart for service extended well beyond DAR. She was very active with P.E.O., a philanthropic educational organization. She originally joined chapter RX in California, and transferred her membership, and was a founding member, of chapter JJ upon moving to Texas. She has held various chapter offices in both locations.
In total, Carole belonged to 34 service organizations and was active in virtually all of them holding officer roles or committee chairs most of them. She was the National President of Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America (2015-2018), National Presiding Clerk Descendants of Early Quakers, Governor General of Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, President General Antebellum Planters (2019-2021), and President General of Descendants of Sheriffs and Constables (2018-2020). In addition to these highest offices, she was a member and held many offices and chairmanships of the Mayflower Society, Colonial Dames of America, Women Descendants of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts, Daughters of American Colonists, Daughters of Indian Wars, Dames of the Court of Honor, Flagon and Trencher, Descendants of Founders of Hartford, Daughters of Colonial Wars, Order of Americans of Armorial Ancestry, New England Women, National Gavel Society, Guild of Colonial Artisans and Tradesman (Master Guilder), Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century, Americans of Royal Descent, U.S. Daughters of 1812, Order of the Crown of Charlemagne, National Huguenot Society, Daughters of the Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865, Bench and Bar, Dutch Colonial Society, First Families of Connecticut, First Families of New Hampshire, Colonial Daughters of the Seventeenth Century, Order of Descendants of Physicians and Chirugiens, Descendants of Early Postmasters, and Order of the Kings and Queens in the Holy Lands.
Private memorial services are planned for the immediate family. Arrangements for a virtual service will be finalized in the near future and details will be added once they are complete. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association in Carole's memory.
