Briana M Kew

Briana (Breezy) Kew was taken from us on 19 March 2025 in a tragic accident. She is survived by her brother Mark Hammack, his wife Carol, aunt Martha Henry, cousins Matt Henry, Suzette Henry, Kaicie Short, Carolyn Gebert, and Mike Hammack, their spouses and children. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Kew, and her parents Kenneth and Penny Hammack. She lived for the past 25 years at her home in Bedford, TX, with her cats, books, and crafts of all kinds.

Briana was born at Harris Methodist Hospital on 6 May 1962, and grew up in Fort Worth, graduating with honors from Paschal High School in 1980. She attended Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, TX, and graduated with a BA in Psychology with a minor in Computer Science in 1984. Afterward, she worked at several companies as a computer programmer but really enjoyed writing Oracle SQL based C code.

Briana was always a free spirit, even calling herself a “late generation hippie”. She supported many causes and was an advocate for those she saw as underserved or shunned by the community. She was “crafty” in that she was always looking for new crafts to try out. Sewing, candle making, calligraphy, needlepoint, photography, and rock tumbling are just a few of the hobbies she enjoyed. One of her joys was working for Michael’s Crafts and Hobbies where she would take advantage of the “sample sales” they would have periodically. For a time, she and Bob ran a shop on Etsy, selling books, crafts, and her photographs.

Briana enjoyed playing Dungeons and Dragons (she really liked dragons) and interacting with people on The Straight Dope message board (where she and Bob met). She will be missed by the many friends that she made in those communities.

In recent years, Briana became interested in Genealogy. She had a deep interest in her maternal grandmother’s side of the family, and had traced it back several generations. She also added to what her father had done in his research, adding a few more generations to that line.
