Betty Storm Alvey

Betty Storm Alvey, a beloved daughter, sister, stepmother, grandmother, aunt and cherished friend, was born on September 22, 1955, in Brownwood, Texas. She died in her Grapevine, Texas home on September 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Her life remains a testament to joy, resilience, humor, and a deep compassion for others.

Born to Melvin and Mary Lou Storm, the fourth of six children, Betty was nurtured in an environment that valued family, fun, hard work and service before self. Betty grew up riding horses and caring for animals while also developing her musical talents and learning how to make her mother’s entire dessert catalogue. Betty and her siblings remained steadfast in gathering together to connect, share delicious food, and model for the next generation the importance of family and shared traditions. Betty was preceded in death by her loving parents and her sister, Beverly Lou Storm. Betty’s legacy is lovingly carried on by her siblings: Stephen Storm and his wife Bebe, Judy Bowers, Loy Storm and his wife Tricia, and Ann Swanson.

A hallmark of Betty’s life was her ability to show up and invest in the lives of those she loved. She cherished being a stepmother to Debi Alvey Gonzalez and getting to be a part of the life Debi built with her husband Vidal and grandson Lucas. Additionally, Betty poured into the lives of twenty-one nieces and nephews as well as many great-nieces and nephews. Betty fostered a love of “lake life” and taught everyone how to water ski, often hauling kids around the lake on skis or a tube until sunset. She attended countless sporting events and musical performances, always cheering the loudest and giving encouraging feedback.

A proud graduate of Brownwood High School's Class of 1974, Betty pursued her passion for music at North Texas State University, earning a Bachelor's degree in Music. An accomplished soprano, Betty was called to share her gift on stages and in the classroom. For 29 years, she inspired and nurtured the talents of middle school students as a choral music teacher in Irving and Coppell. Her dedication to her students was unparalleled, and the impact she made on young lives is reflected in the students who still credit “Ms. Alvey” with helping them become their best selves.

In honoring Betty’s life and her boundless compassion, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to a charity of your choice. This gesture will continue her legacy of kindness and giving.

Betty’s memory will be cherished forever by all who knew her. Her spirit lives on in the music she loved, the lives she touched, and the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.
