Anita Gay Thomas Peters, 75, of Hurst, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 24, 1950, in Great Bend, Kansas, Anita later moved to Colorado where she graduated from Aurora High School.
A life-changing decision to attend Oklahoma Christian College found her crossing paths with Mike, and after a whirlwind ten-month romance, the two would be married on August 14, 1970.
Eventually settling in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the young couple would soon welcome their daughters Amy and Angela. Devoting much of her time as a loving mother determined to raise strong, independent women, she also found time to return to her studies eventually earning a BA in Human Relations and Business, attending Baylor Law School on full scholarship and finally earning a Master of Arts in Counseling from Amberton University.
But it was in Hurst, TX where her deepest roots were laid. For over 30 years she would build her career, first as a respected counselor at Northeast Tarrant County College helping multiple students realize the dream of a college education and second, partnering with Mike to build a thriving private practice, Partners in Counseling, LLC serving families and individuals across the DFW metroplex.
These golden years would gift her her greatest title, that of Mimi, to her four beautiful grandchildren, who were the light of her life. They were also full of many memory-filled moments and family trips, which often included visits to places like Santa Fe, NM and special weekend getaways with her girls, religiously practiced for over three decades, attending Renaissance festivals together.
Anita — Mom, Mimi — leaves an immeasurable void. She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Michael Lee Peters; her daughter Amy Anne Tippett and son-in-law Sean Dixon Tippett of Hurst, her daughter Angela Gay Vargo and son-in-law Randall Edward Vargo of Colleyville, TX; her brother and sister-in-law Doug and Pam Thomas of Black Hills, SD; and her cherished grandsons, Brendan Alexander Tippett, Roan Edward Vargo, and Reid Michael Vargo.
She was preceded in death by her precious granddaughter, Londyn Maryanna Tippett; her parents, Archie and Ruby Thomas; and many dear family members and friends. We take comfort in knowing she has been joyfully reunited with them.
Anita’s life will be honored in a private family celebration. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to: Dementia Society of America
