Alfred Hanson

January 20, 1946 — January 1, 2026

Alfred Vincent Hanson, lovingly known as Al, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, at the age of 79. He was born on January 20, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York.

At the age of seven, Alfred moved with his family to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was raised and later graduated from Rancho High School. He went on to attend the Community College of Southern Nevada, earning an Associate’s degree in History, a subject he deeply enjoyed and valued throughout his life.

Alfred proudly served his country in the United States Army from March 1966 to March 1969 as a heavy machine operator. During his service, he participated in recovery and evacuation operations during the Geneva Convention era. He was honorably recognized with the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Marksman Badge (M-14). His military service reflected his strong sense of duty, discipline, and compassion for others.

Following his military service, Alfred worked as a meat cutter for 34 years, a trade he took great pride in. Known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail, he earned the respect of coworkers and customers alike throughout his long career.

In 2003, Alfred retired and settled in Blossom, Texas, where he embraced a peaceful life surrounded by the natural beauty he loved so deeply. An outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed shooting, hunting, boating, and horseback riding. He also found great joy in quieter pastimes, including building and collecting model trains, as well as coin and stamp collecting— interests that reflected his patience, curiosity, and appreciation for history.

Alfred was known as a kind, honest, and generous man with a warm sense of humor and a joyful heart. He would help anyone in need without hesitation and gave freely of himself, expecting nothing in return. His kindness, humility, and integrity left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He also cherished lifelong friendships spanning more than 70 years, including his dear friends Chuck Keller and Ron Stark. These friendships endured through every season of life, and they remained in close contact with Alfred even through the most difficult stages of his Alzheimer’s disease—a testament to their loyalty, love, and the deep connections Alfred formed throughout his life.

Most importantly, Alfred was a believer in Jesus Christ and had accepted Him as his Savior. His faith was a source of strength and peace throughout his life.

Alfred was the son of James Hanson-Delucia and Clara Hanson-Pettini, and the stepson of Rose Hanson. He was preceded in death by his siblings Kenny Leavitt and Karen Leavitt.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Hanson; his daughters, Audrey Neel and Tobrenia Gonzalez; and his loving sons-in-law, Reece Neel and Armando Gonzalez. He was a devoted grandfather to Grant Gonzalez, Gabby Yarborough, Diego Gonzalez, Corban Neel, Jamen Neel, and Dalten Neel, and a cherished great-grandfather to Charlotte Yarborough, who brought him immense joy and pride.

He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses, Eugene and Mary Hanson, Barbara Leavitt, James “Junior” Hanson, Butch Leavitt, and Clarence Leavitt.
