Albert Eugene Hiser, a beloved father, veteran, and friend, passed away on May 15, 2025, in Grapevine, Texas, at the age of 86. Born on March 10, 1939, in Ana, Illinois, Al led a life filled with quiet strength and wisdom, making a lasting impact on those around him.

Al’s journey began on the humble grounds of his grandfather Pop Smith’s farm, where the seeds of resilience were sown within him.

Al joined the military in 1961. He dedicated two decades of his life to service, proudly retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army in 1980. Throughout his military career, he received numerous commendations, including two Bronze Stars, a Silver Star, and a Legion of Merit for his peacetime service. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Al moved into the construction industry after retiring from the military, including owning Hiser & Sons, a specialty construction company. He then devoted the later years of his career to First Baptist Church of Indianapolis, serving for 16 years as the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds until his retirement at the age of 67.

An education enthusiast, Al earned his GED while serving in the military and later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Mary’s College in 1974. His membership in Phi Alpha Theta, the International History Honor Society, reflected his lifelong passion for learning and history.

A true gentleman, Al embodied kindness and generosity. He was known as "the card ministry guy" at Abiding Grace Lutheran Church in Southlake, Texas, where he was a faithful member. His beautiful bass singing voice graced church choirs nearly all his life, and he loved sharing the liturgy during the service.

Al had a myriad of interests outside of his professional life. He loved to bowl and play racquetball and softball in his youth. A lifetime fan of the Yankees and the Reds, he cherished baseball deeply. As an avid reader, Al amassed a library of several thousand books, with a particular fondness for mysteries and historical fiction, especially from early America. His love for animals was evident in his life; he often had dogs and cats as cherished companions.

Al is survived by his beloved daughter, Lisa Hiser Harrington of Trophy Club, Texas, where he lived just a mile from her for his last two years. Also surviving are grandson Ethan Andrew Hiser of the U.S. Coast Guard, his brothers, Glenn and Gary Hiser, and will be warmly remembered by his nephew Brett Hiser and niece Dr. Beth Hiser. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carol Jean Heller Hiser, whom he married on July 9, 1960, his brother Ernel Guy Hiser, and by his sons, Albert E. Hiser Jr., USN and John Michael Hiser.

The family invites all who knew and loved Al to gather for a visitation at Abiding Grace Lutheran Church, located at 1060 E Highland Street, Southlake, TX, on May 31, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 10:00 AM with lunch after. At 12:30, Al will be laid to rest at the historical Medlin Cemetery in Trophy Club, Texas, where he will rest among the whispers of history which he so cherished.

As we celebrate the life of Albert Eugene Hiser, we hold onto the memories of a man of wisdom and abiding love for God, country and family. His legacy touched many lives, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

In the words of his favorite verse, Psalm 118:24, "This is the day that the Lord hath made; let us rejoice and be glad in it," as we honor a truly remarkable man.
